About Speak & Fix
An independent, everyday practice tool for people learning to speak and write English with more confidence.
What Speak & Fix is
Speak & Fix is a browser-based practice tool built around one idea: the fastest way to get comfortable with English is to actually use it, over and over, in ordinary conversation, and to get quick, specific feedback when something goes wrong. It gives you a conversation partner you can type or talk to in plain English, at any hour, without needing to schedule a class or find a partner who is free at the same time as you.
Who it's for
Speak & Fix is aimed at anyone who understands English reasonably well but wants more practice actually producing it — speaking it out loud or writing it under normal, everyday pressure. In practice that includes:
- University students who read and write English for coursework but rarely speak it
- Job seekers preparing for interviews conducted in English
- Adult learners rebuilding confidence after years away from regular practice
- IELTS and other exam candidates who need structured speaking practice
- Anyone who wants a low-pressure space to make mistakes without an audience
The problem it solves
Most people learning English get plenty of exposure to reading and listening, but far less practice actually speaking or writing spontaneously — and almost no immediate, specific feedback when they do. A private conversation partner that responds instantly, corrects clearly, and doesn't get tired of repeating something removes the two biggest obstacles to regular practice: finding a partner, and finding the courage to make mistakes in front of one.
How speaking practice works
Inside the app, you have an ongoing conversation with your practice partner — by typing or by speaking through your device's microphone. You can talk about daily life, opinions, work, travel, or anything else you'd normally practise; the conversation is meant to feel like an actual exchange, not a scripted drill.
How corrections work
As you chat, mistakes in grammar, word choice, or phrasing are pointed out alongside the conversation itself, rather than interrupting it. You choose between two teaching styles to match how you like to learn:
- Strict Mam — corrects mistakes as they happen and has you repeat the corrected version, for focused accuracy practice.
- Good Mam — keeps the conversation flowing naturally and mentions mistakes more lightly, for practice that feels closer to a real chat.
How mistakes become flashcards
When a correction comes up, it can be saved as a flashcard automatically, pairing what you said with the corrected version. Over time this builds a personal set of cards based on your own real mistakes — not a generic list — which you can review in the Flashcards section whenever you want a short, focused study session.
Why consistent practice matters
Speaking ability tends to improve with frequency more than with any single long session. Ten focused minutes most days generally does more for spoken fluency than one long session every few weeks, because the goal is to make correct forms feel automatic rather than something you have to consciously work out mid-sentence. Speak & Fix is built around that kind of short, frequent practice.
An independent learning tool
Speak & Fix is an independent project and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or certified by IELTS, the British Council, IDP, Cambridge Assessment English, or any other testing or certification body. It's a practice tool, not an official test or a guarantee of any particular outcome or score.
Bring your own AI provider key
Where the app supports it, you connect your own API key from a compatible AI provider to power your conversations. Your key is used to talk to that provider on your behalf and is not shared with other users. See the Privacy Policy for exactly how keys are stored.
